Thoughts on new car prices over the next 16 months or so?

I feel like we can talk about this and keep it TSL legal. Daughter will get her learners around Christmas and be a full blown driver by next summer. The current plan is to hand her down my daily driver, a 2012 Nissan Xterra, and buy something new. We're looking at Pathfinders. This timing means I can buy now or any time in the next 16 months. If I buy now, I'll have to borrow $15-20K and I really don't like to do that. Never like the idea of a car loan. If I wait until next August, I can probably have enough saved to pay cash (assuming the prices don't go through the roof). So whats the play? Buy now and pay a little interest as a hedge against potentially rising car prices? In short, do you think MUCH higher car prices are inevitable during this 16 month window of mine?
