Would like advice regarding Refundable airline tickets vs travel insurance

and per-existing condition limitations coverage. we are planning to travel abroad and we routinely purchase travel insurance for medical coverage and most importantly medical evacuation if needed. We are in our 70's and in reasonable health. Trip is planned for late May and first week of June We are wanting to buy tickets now for better connections and pricing I have recently been diagnosed with a medical condition that may impact my ability top travel- wondering 1-I assume travel insurance negates the need for refundable airline tickets- would welcome advice if the assumption is incorrect 2-When looking at travel insurance I found script like the following: =================================================== Pre-Existing Medical Condition is an illness, disease, or other condition during the Look-Back Period for which You or Your Traveling Companion, Business Partner or Family Member scheduled or booked to travel with You: 1) received or received a recommendation for a test, examination, or Medical Treatment for a condition which first manifested itself, worsened or became acute or had symptoms which would have prompted a reasonable person to seek diagnosis, care or treatment; or 2) took or received a prescription for drugs or medicine. Item (2) of this definition does not apply to a condition which is treated or controlled solely through the taking of prescription drugs or medicine and remains treated or controlled without any adjustment or change in the required prescription throughout the Look-Back Period before coverage is effective under this Policy. Benefits are not normally paid due to a Pre-Existing Condition, as defined in the Policy. Look Back Period This is the period of time immediately prior to the Effective Date of Your coverage – when you buy your policy. This is the period of time that the Carrier concerns itself with new conditions, changes to condition, recommendations for treatment, new or changed medications. If none of this has occurred within the Look-Back Period, you do not have a Pre-Existing Medical Condition, as far as is defined by the Travel Insurance Carrier. You have a ‘Stable Condition’, which is covered. Waiver of Look Back The Exclusion for the Pre-Existing Condition will be Waived provided: a) Your payment is received within 20 days of the initial trip payment or deposit; and b) You are not disabled from travel at the time Your premium is paid. Time Sensitive Period The number of days between initial payment of any trip costs and the purchase of the Travel Insurance Policy. The policy must be bought within the Time Sensitive Period in order to benefit from any Pre-Existing Medical Condition Waiver that is offered. ============================================================================ We are going to buy the travel insurance asap Also I am currently taking medication to treat the diagnosed condition Given these parameters I believ I am exempted from Pre Existing condition exclusions Comments or perspective appreciated Any travel insurance companies you woukl recommend for or against? Thanks in advance
