Lets talk Shimano pedals
I thought Shimano called their mountain bike pedals SPDs, but they had another designation for their road bike pedals. Talked to a friend who just bought a new road bike, and he said it has SPDs. Thought it was the same as my SPDs, but the cleats are the triangular ones for road bikes, and not the smaller cleats for MTBs.
The Shimano pedal pages calls both their road bike and mountain bike pedals SPDs. When you click the page for their road bike pedals, they all have a "PD" designation in their model #, where the mountain bike pedals all have "SPD" in their model number.
So my question is, when did Shimano start calling their road bike pedals "SPDs?"

Road pedals are SPD-SL, MTB are SPD.
