(thread hijack) When my Dad's Army tour in Germany ended after 3 years
(1955-56?) we flew back and refueled in the Azores. Flying at night on Flying Tigers DC-6, probably. Officers and their dependents packed into this like cattle, it seemed. Simultaneously, the German Boxer pup we got flew back to join us on KLM.
