We were told before our first HS soccer season that

the clock runs if you get knocked down and hurt, so you better get un-hurt or find your own way off the field. Extreme injuries were causes for stopping the action but not the clock. This was in the mid1960s in northern VA. Simply because it isn't the same as a totally different sport's timekeeping is irrelevant.

I learned just today that VAR is shown to refs in real time, not slo-mo.
