gratuity fee right there for you to see. The heartburn for the wait staff and bartenders is, most customers believe that fee is going straight to them, when the reality is, little of it is. Management takes half of it right off the top, and the rest is split (and no one knows how) and that is used to make the waitstaff paycheck. When you work an event, you never really know what you will make. It is usually a range, and it isn't great. Certainly not what a customer may think by counting heads and doing the math. It is totally non-transparent, even deceptive, IMO. But I am of the opinion, if you don't like the pay, don't do it. And I don't anymore. But I will say, a lot of people tip when it is an open bar (and I only tended bar, and all events I did were open bar). I look people in the eye and thank them. I can't stand it when I go out and tip well and get no response. That happened to me just yesterday. So, to answer your question. Most staff at these types of events, especially the wait staff, will probably be ecstatic to get $50 - they just won't show it, ha. The bartender will probably have a tip jar, unless management prohibits it. But even then, people will hand him money and he will put it in his pocket. It's pretty hard not to tip when someone is making you a free drink for at least 10% of the people. So, I wouldn't necessarily tip the bar more. And I wouldn't tip anyone with a bad attitude, if you notice that. These events are a fun place to work. Regular restaurant work, not so much. When you work one, you should be happy and cheerful, not burned out and "deserving". I don't know about the DJ.
