Michael Shellenberger touched on that in his book Apocalypse Never. He
wrote it because his daughter was truly depressed because the world was ending from climate change. It turns out surveys throughout the world show young people believe the hype. In England, 25% show signs of depression related to this belief. Michael has actually received awards for his climate change support. However, he offered very specific insight into how much of the climate reporting is hyperbole and infected with politics. The best mitigation strategy is to improve your economy, and this is from someone who started out his adult life supporting communism.
The book I'm reading now is from the Obama Administration's Undersecretary of Science, Stephen Koonin. Amazing credentials. He was charged with assessing the strengths of the climate modeling, and he details why they are very inaccurate. One interesting point he made is the models have realized that clouds formed from ocean-based evaporation are 30x more impactful on our climate than all of human-produced matter. He really takes down his fellow scientists for exaggeration, misleading conclusions and outright terrible science. He names names, but he does it in a very balanced way. He also states clearly things are no way near as dyer as portrayed, yet there are reasonable interventions that some of the well-supported science indicates. His premise is huge public policy decisions need to rely on objective science.
