They still become the (G)Nats because I'm not sure a new stadium would have

been enough to salvage the business relationship between Claude Brochu and his partnerships. At least the consortium had other issues going on besides the public spat regarding the stadium situation, so eventually the team would have be up for sale. Since Selig was determined to bring baseball back to DC one way or another, it is likely MLB would have pulled a similar stunt like what happened with the sale of the Astros in order to force the new owner to relocate the team to DC. Heck Brochu's partners even publicly accused him of having a secret deal to relocate the team to DC while they were trying to negotiate a deal with the provincial government.
