Raccoons fill an important ecological niche

They also control rodent and pest populations. If you’re putting food out for them (whether they’re your target species or not), they’re going to come for the free meal. It’s one thing to remove them from your home for health reasons, it’s another thing to lure them in and eradicate them. For anyone that kills raccoons, fox, snakes, crows, hawks, etc., I say enjoy your mice. House mice and Norway rats love bird seed.
