If you drive around Petersburg there are some impressive older mansions
that are now in a state of mild to moderate disrepair. You can visualize how they may have looked 50 years ago when they were taken care of. Petersburg was largely spared by the Union forces, so there are a good number of buildings that pre-date the Civil War...the biggest issue is that the city has very little tax base and a very limited amount of industry.
