The 3 ton jack stands are probably sufficient, but if the 4 ton aren't that much more expensive... You can also buy "drive on" ramps, but they will be limited in how high they'll raise your vehicle. I own both ramps and jack stands. The ramps are usually my first choice for a quick job (if that's all the elevation I need), and the jack stands for more involved projects. I can drive onto the ramps and get started much quicker than having to put my vehicles on jack stands. A good floor jack is also a "must have" tool. It's much quicker to use than any other type of jack.
