I still own a 2001 Ram 1500 and 2008 Ram 1500. Both run and have the original engine and transmission (knock on wood). The 2001 has ~225,000 and the 2008 just rolled over 126,000 this week. I love both and doubt I will ever part with them as long as they run. They are super easy to work on (with the fan and shroud removed, I can literally stand in the engine bay with my feet on the ground), and parts are relatively inexpensive. The 2001 doesn't have any sort of fuel management system - it's just an old school pushrod engine with low compression, and it just runs every time I start it up. It's not a powerhouse, but it's adequate and has decent low-end torque. The Hemi in the 2008 is much peppier, and it has not given me any trouble at all, other than a poorly-dpited wiring harness that eventually rubbed through the insulation and grounded out the crank position sensor. Thankfully I fixed that myself. Yes, both trucks have some design weaknesses (particularly the 2001 with its two-piece intake manifold that is notorious for leaking and the plastic dash that cracks), but regardless, they continue to run without any major repairs.
