Day 8 Elevation Vacation………🦃❤️🥾🏔️
My unrealistic goal today was to summit Mount Wilson at 14,256’. Unrealistic because there is a ton of snow when the route gets steep and with extreme exposure at the end.
I set the alarm for 4:30AM, got up at 4:10. The weather was forecasted to be nice late, but rain early. I made it to the trailhead by 6, a 50 minute drive🤬.
The first 3-4 miles are fantastic, a National Park like trail, beautiful woodland scenery and treeless openings with thick, knee high vegetation. However, the area had storms yesterday and the vegetation soaked my boots. Around 7:45, it started to rain, but up high was snow. I dislike hiking in the rain so I found some cover under spruce trees and waited for 40 minutes.
It started to clear, I put on my rain coat, and proceeded to go to 11,200’. By know, my feet were wet and cold, I looked around and saw more potential rain and I was done.
By the time I got back to the trailhead it was beautiful, of course. I decided then, that the next 3 days, 14k summits were not going to happen and I was going to concentrate on mountains around Telluride without snow.
Here are early photos and then I will post photos at the end.

Almost must seem that the longer you hike the farther away the goal is.**
