In high school,I ran
indoor track with a guy who had the best 500 yd time in the state of Virginia. However,in practice,he would goof off and not work hard when the coaches were not watching. I remember that we had the state indoor championships at VMI. In the finals, the guy on my team started off well in the 500,but faded due to not being in the best shape and he lost the race. That was in 1973 and it has stuck in my mind all of these years...he blew a great opportunity because he was too lazy to work hard and reach his potential.
