Excellent discussion on the TB industry last fall on Freakonomics podcast

The link and the following episode discuss the current state of Thoroughbred breeding and sales. As mentioned below, why risk your asset, both physically with injury, and possibly its reputation with a blow out loss, when you can make gazillions standing in stud. Golden Tempo is out of Curlin, 2x Horse of the Year but is the first major winner sired by him so GT is set up for $$$ fees. This link and the following episode cover TB racing. The prior episode discusses the dressage horse market. Full disclosure, Elizabeth Bortuzzo, the trainer covered with her partner, Marc Paul. is a close family friend has helped train a couple of the SOs horses.
