Saw Backrooms last night

I think it did a good job at conveying the weirdness of Kane Pixel's original YouTube videos. But the videos are short, have no characters and only have to be creepy without explaining what you're seeing. A feature length film can't get away with that. So the challenge is to add characters and create a story that enhance the experience. I won't go so far to say the film out-creepies the YouTube stuff, but at least it doesn't water it down. It does, however, attempt to explain what the Backrooms are, which isn't as successful. When it sticks to the weirdness it succeeds at a pretty high level. Incidentally, this is the third 2026 genre film directed by a YouTuber that has been wildly successful. Iron Lung made $50 million at a $3 million cost, Obsession has already topped $100 million at a $1 million cost, and Backrooms made over $110 million it's opening weekend at a $10 million cost. Indies are taking Hollywood to school.
