learned over the years. I recall one of the little things I found excruciating listening to the old Hokie Hotline show was every...single...caller would lead with "how are you?" I know this is the South, and it's an expected pleasantry when starting a conversation, but that particular question has been asked and answered, so asking it over and over again makes for some really bad radio. I seem to recall one of the shock jocks like Jim Rome or Colin Cowherd had a policy where the first caller of the day gets to ask "how are you," but after that, you will get hung up on if you lead with that. It's a bit mean, but it eliminates a lot of bad radio. I do think you are way less likely to get 17 questions in a row that all lead with "how are you" in a press conference with professional reporters asking the question. But Franklin jumping into the conversation with 'how are you" does prevent that question being asked of him over and over again.
