...that everything feels threatening by comparison. I try not to be overly protective of my daughter, but I will admit that the world feels like a very scary place to raise a child right now. I really wish my daughter could grow up in the same environment I did...life was just so much simpler back then. And I think in some way I am trying my best to artificially create that environment, but it requires a lot of work and filtering of the outside world. So I understand how annoying overprotective parents are and I try really hard not to become one myself, but I also recognize that most of those types of parents are coming from a genuine place. I think it's just easy to cross the line and go from being protective, yet allowing your child to safely learn independence, to overprotective and completely prohibiting independence.
