He toughed it out in Game 3 of the Dodgers Yankees World Series getting rocked for 4 runs in the first 3 innings but shut them down the rest of the way going all 9 innings. This was back in the day where bullpens were not used as much and pitchers did what they had to do to win, their arms be damned. Dodgers won that game 5 to 4 and went on to win World Series in 6 after being down 2 games to 0. Fernando was one of the most loved Dodger players of all time. Unless you are Yankees fan or Dodgers fan it is tough to understand how memorable their World Series against each other are. I had young guy from GIS, who is Yankees fan come down yesterday to my office to talk about the World Series. I told him I was lucky enough, while in middle school to see 3 in my lifetime 77,78 and 81. I told him, if your team loses it is going hurt for long time and if your wins it is going feel great for a long time. The sports press coverage is heightened to unbelievable levels.
