I get that GM needed to trim it's lineup a bit. It was definitely bloated.

But I never really grasped keeping Buick. A lineup of Chevy (the baseline), Cadillac (premium cars), GMC (premium trucks), and Pontiac (sporty cars) makes more sense to me than dropping Pontiac and keeping Buick. I'd have ditched Buick and Olds, kept Pontiac and maybe even Saturn. I feel like Saturn was a good idea that just died because gas got cheap and no one wanted small cars at the time, but was still a worthwhile brand.
