It looks the whole is less than the sum of the parts in some respects.
Your analysis looks pretty spot on to me. Several times during the UNC game the announcers mentioned (and showed) several guys wide open who weren't thrown to, and pass blocking hasn't been bad. Run blocking is terrible and the run game plans look kind of basic to me. Way too many penalties this year.
