Minor tweak that could possibly improve opening round/overall bracket...

While there are many things that could be done to the overall playoff/season we might like better, I was just trying to think of a way to improve things within the current overall format. What if we got rid of automatic byes for top 4 conf champs and instead gave all 5 conf champs a guaranteed top 8 seed? This still rewards conf champs but also ensures the 4 teams with a bye are the teams generally considered the 4 best and eliminates the home team blowouts we saw this year. Using final CFP rankings for this year, we could have seen Notre Dame hosting SMU, Boise St hosting Indiana, Arizona St hosting Tennessee and Clemson hosting Ohio St this weekend. It's not perfect, but I think we'd have 4 better games. ** Edited by BUGGZY at 12/22/2024, 1:29:03 AM

Get rid of all the bowls in the playoff, all games are home for higher seed

Four was fine , 8’ fair.

Yesterday was historic. The on campus part was awesome

Bottom line is 9-12 seeds aren’t going to win the CFP
Hokie1992 12/22/24 07:13 AM ET
Why would FSU or Clemson be more committed now? What am I missing?

A year ago Clemson and Florida state assumed

? Seems to confirm/solidify

I could see a lower seeded SEC team who maybe had an injured QB/RB early
Tuckahokie 12/22/24 07:46 AM ET
1-4 seeds aren’t likely to beat 5-8
hokiepro 12/22/24 07:18 AM ET
What needs to happen is game played on neutral field of higher seed’s…
ombandit 12/22/24 12:40 AM ET
Then why not home field?**

Please no more CFB in NFL stadiums**
Hokie 04 12/22/24 09:00 AM ET
How about playing those first four games at NFL stadiums?
EDGEMAN 12/22/24 07:27 AM ET
Terrible idea
hokiepro 12/22/24 09:15 AM ET
That’s a bigger waste. On campus games make college football great
hokiepro 12/22/24 07:26 AM ET
Or at least a more generous ticket allocation for visiting teams.

Wow
crazylane 12/22/24 09:22 AM ET
Playing the first round in the higher seeds stadium is fine.
Hokie1992 12/22/24 08:01 AM ET
The Tennessee @ Ohio state game was sort of that way
Hokie1992 12/22/24 08:37 AM ET
Heinz? The very mention of it makes me want to hit the bottle.**
KCHokie2 12/22/24 01:54 AM ET
I'd actually prefer MORE on campus games...
BUGGZY 12/22/24 01:27 AM ET
How about ALL games on campus except the national final at the Rose Bowl.
Maroon Baboon 12/22/24 09:06 AM ET
100% agree. The other boss are pointless these days
run_VT 12/22/24 09:52 AM ET
Agreed, IMO the quarterfinals should be on college campuses too
BROman Hokie 12/22/24 08:54 AM ET
Exactly - I dislike the CFP altogether for some of the topics you mention
VPI_1998 12/22/24 05:28 AM ET
Nope. Lame.
Maroon Baboon 12/22/24 01:04 AM ET
Disagree. The format works all through the NFL playoffs until Super Bowl.
40ozDistrict 12/22/24 12:46 AM ET
Only one team “lost”, Clemson…the others didn’t show up**
ombandit 12/22/24 07:02 AM ET
The NFL plays common opponents in common conferences/divisions.
