rather quickly to the point he spent the last 1 1/2 years - 2 years of his life unable to communicate or move. It would be accurate to describe him as basically being a shell because he had no interaction of any kind with the surrounding environment. We think he had Lewy bodies, but no autopsy was ever performed to know for sure. He probably developed other complications on top of the Parkinson's. What makes Parkinson's real nasty is the not knowing if the person's mind feels trapped in a hellish prison or not. Particularly when you think the person is "mentally gone" and/or unable to communicate/interact with the outside world. There were times when I visited him that Metallica's "One" would pop into my head. The song did make me wonder if he was still in there (even buried deep) or if he was truly a ghost in the shell.
