I'm always going to want people in jobs that have done them before...

regardless of P5 or G5 etc. I'm always going to give a Governor a longer look for President than a Senator. Its an executive job. Obviously, there's no magic formula though. Look at Nick Saban's coaching tree...some of his coordinators have succeeded, and others have failed pretty bad. I'm not a fan of learning on the job at a program like VT however.
