If that phantom offensive PI had not been called early on in the first half

then VT would have likely continued marching down the field for some type of score. Probably would have scored a TD given the momentum at the time, but at least gotten 3 points on that drive. I believe a TD on that drive would have increased the lead to either 3 points (if it was in the first quarter) or 10 points (if it was in the second quarter). Even if Reggie Bush had "taken over the game" in the second half, I do think that 10 point cushion would have influenced Beamer's and Foster's decisions in the second half. Part of me even likes to think it might even be the game that VT "escapes" with the W and helps shake off the "Chokies" nickname. If USC still found a way to win the game, then at the very least it should have showed VT leadership the standard the program should strive for going forward because champions always find a way to rise to the top when under pressure.

Going away? White and Bush had 100 yards combined.**

Only if VT scores a TD, which wasn't a guarantee.
reestuart 02/27/26 09:03 AM ET
You are right a TD wasn't guaranteed on that drive. However, prior to the

IIRC, VT was good in the RZ that season, but not good at scoring TDs.

True, but I am not sure a TD on that drive would have come in the RZ. If

You are right. Since the ball would have been marked somewhere around

Absolutely but we were playing more than just against USC. **

Yep. Egregious offensive PI phantom flag, plus we had a key injury

Yes, that injury on Adibi was awful. I actually had never seen an injury
