Josh Heupel has revived TN football after a series of poor coaching hires dragged what had been a championship-level program into the mud. TN has always had playmakers, recruiting has never been an issue for them. Yet somehow those star players weren't as wide open under Jeremy Pruitt, Butch Jones, or Derek Dooley. Hendon Hooker was a Heisman contender and will be a late first round NFL draft pick. This, after being run off by a coach who decided he wasn't good enough to be a starter. Braxton Burmeister, who VT's 'QB Whisperer' decided was a better player than Hooker, will not be drafted and will never sniff a NFL field. Justin Fuente, who destroyed Hooker's confidence and continually mishandled the QB position despite allegedly being some kind of offensive coaching genius, is currently out of a HC job and will likely never again lead a P5 football program. The massive crater he left in the VT football program is one that his successor, and likely his successor's successor, will spend years digging out of. And yet so many people refuse to see the overwhelming evidence in front of their eyes. COACHING MATTERS.
