State of Virginia lost a Good One. Newsome was a class-act
I knew him well when he was Coaching at Kecoughtan High School and went fishing a couple of times with him and his best buddy, Mike Smith who was at Hampton High. He got me my first job out of VT coaching and teaching at K-tan.
Quick story about Newsome..its the 1990s and Newsome's Kecoughtan plays immediately after Hampton won the title in game 1 against Lee Suggs and William Fleming. Newsome invites Smith from Hampton to come on the field and put on a headset and help out. Hampton had about 25 players come on the sidelines offering support for KTan after Hampton got out of pads. That was typical Newsome.
RIP Coach. I got my first teaching and coaching job after Tech under Coach Newsome at Kecoughtan.
