Let the top 4 regular season conference champions, plus maybe the next one or two highest ranked non-champions automatically advance to the playoff and bypass the play-in games to reward a good regular season. Use the sites of the current championship games to host the play-in games, ideally with a "local" team (or teams) from the old affiliated conference. For instance, the Atlanta game would feature at least one (or maybe even two) SEC teams. Same with Charlotte, Dallas, etc. I would much rather see this Saturday's games all be 100% "Win or go home" scenarios rather than just playing for seeding.
