My father would take me to that game every year when I between 8 and 14.
We would get dressed up in our suits and ties, he would always have a bottle with him that he carried in a leather pouch right into the gate and to our seats. Said it was "snake bite medicine" since there were so many snakes in Victory Stadium. I remember there was either the Thanksgiving Day game or what was once known as the Harvest Bowl. Both corps would march in from the train station and the cheer squads would set up paper mache representations of the others mascot on the 50 yard line and blow them up with there respective cannons. My father was a huge VMI fan and I was a budding VT fan (which he didn't care for so much). VPI would go on to win the vast majority of those games, but I remember one year VMI pulled the upset in a close one and my dad would go home with a huge smile on his face. Every year, one of the attractions was the fight that would occur between the two corps. They would start playing the National Anthem to get it to stop. At halftime, the VPI silent drill team part of the Highty Tighties would put on a great show. Damn good memories.
