It is a mistake for people to use early season games against overmatched

opponents to think we are deeper than we are. Rice becoming available to make it a "10-man rotation" as the game article suggested might be too optimistic. I think, as we get into the season against tougher teams, including the ACC schedule, there are going to be players who are not reliable, who need more time, who get in foul trouble or can't defend, or who turn the ball over. It happens in football when people are awarded the Heisman trophy after a team's first game against LA-Monroe (equivalent) and it happens in early season basketball creampuff games when someone goes off. I agree that we are going to suffer defensively in the lane, especially when we hedge or double up top. Right now, our weakside rotation to cover underneath is slow or lacking and people are getting easy scores or potential looks. Poteat seems like he will get into foul trouble. Camden won't necessarily have the bulk to guard some of the players, but i will love to see how he improves. Kidd hopefully will be like N'Guessan. Last year, players like Pedula, Maddox, and N'Guessan did not get a lot of time once games got serious until they improved over time. I can see Rice, Collins, and some others ALSO be slow to get time in games that matter until they develop. ** Edited by VAHokie89 at 11/12/2022, 9:35:20 AM

chagerma 11/11/22 10:34 AM ET
Very much so**
GCHokie34 11/11/22 11:22 AM ET
Charleston will be nice to see a bit more adversity for the team.**

All good points but I would counter (slightly) with this ...

Question: did we look sloppy covering up underneath…
jms41 11/10/22 10:46 PM ET
Yes, we did not properly rotate into good weak-side help defense**
VAHokie89 11/11/22 10:40 AM ET
The bigs (mainly Poteat)
GCHokie34 11/10/22 10:53 PM ET
Poteat will be OK, we will know when Vs. the Big UVa foreign guy. **

Beyond what GCHokie said, i feel Poteat will be in perpetual foul trouble
VAHokie89 11/11/22 10:41 AM ET
Let Poteat use his fouls.

Fouls don't affect the player alone...
GCHokie34 11/12/22 09:55 AM ET
Yes and no
VAHokie89 11/11/22 05:09 PM ET
Is this similar or worse than what we saw with Maddox last year? And
VTKev80 11/11/22 08:20 AM ET
Poteat is at the Ojiako stage. At least a year away from regular minutes**
VT ChemE 1986 11/11/22 09:26 AM ET
He's not nearly as bad as Ojiako, he has the athleticism to keep up**
soflahokie 11/11/22 10:14 AM ET
Collins is gonna be fine and will be a stud for us**
knapnhokie 11/11/22 12:41 AM ET
His HS tape showed it pretty clearly IMO, he's basically Alleyne 2.0
soflahokie 11/11/22 10:15 AM ET
He does have a long process to shoot. That will need to develop
VAHokie89 11/11/22 10:42 AM ET
Agreed, just not this season **

Camden doesn’t look like a guy who will contribute at all
soflahokie 11/10/22 10:06 PM ET
Hasn't looked great yet but some things have slowed his development...
Bmackattack 11/11/22 12:05 PM ET
I’d like to see Camden get extended minutes like Collins did tonight
jms41 11/10/22 10:44 PM ET
He might get them against creampuffs, but it won't tell us much of
VAHokie89 11/11/22 10:43 AM ET
Totally agree but at least time to work at things**
