People need to dig into the numbers and see that we're not

that poorly off. VT has no coaching buyouts that are still being made, and we are in the middle of everything. Travel costs are minimal as we are a 2hr bus ride away from 5 different ACC schools. The recruiting budget is much lower as well. Look at the signees for this year, DeMatha, 2 guys from Charlotte/Rock Hill and another from DC. So 4 guys that you can drive to for recruiting. Not to mention if we're recruiting guys from Oak Hill or Hargrave, that's a day trip. KU guys, for example, have to fly to (I don't know) Roanoke ($$$) or Charlotte and rent a car, drive out to these places. Stay a night or two, depending on what their schedule is. That's triple the cost for those recruiting trips over what VT has to do. Couple that fact to this info is for the '20-'21 season, where Roy Williams was still the head coach for UNC. The difference in his salary ($4.1M - $2.0M) to Mike Young's is almost the entire difference between the two schools. I think the remaining difference would be the assistant coach's salary pool. VT isn't way out of whack, it's got an advantage for low travel costs, low recruiting travel costs and we're not paying a buyout. I believe the next few years VT will move up as they will probably take into account renovations on Cassell. VT didn't build anything in '20-'21 specifically for the basketball team, so there's no capital expenditures either in there.

GCHokie34 06/14/22 04:34 PM ET
you are right, but what's percentage of recruiting cost to total expense?

Parking at ROA isn't a budget breaker. The west end of RIC is 35 to 40
