Yes, in the age of the portal and NIL, there is more player movement than ever. But at what point do MY defenders admit the one constant in the revolving door of VT basketball talent? We've had players leave who were local (DC/MDVA) recruits. We've had players leave who were from out of our normal footprint. We've had players leave in search of more PT. We've had starters leave who were guaranteed to play major minutes if they stayed. We've had players leave for high major destinations. We've had players leave for mid or low major destinations. We've had guys leave who made major contributions in key moments, and guys leave who felt they never got a shot to shine. We've had guys leave who were good fits for "the system" and guys leave who chafed at "the system". MONEY IS NOT THE DRIVING FORCE IN MOST OF THESE TRANSFERS. At some point, when you are losing a diverse talent pool, and it keeps happening, you have to look in the mirror and admit it's not them... it's you. And the greatest irony is that if, as a coach, your greatest perceived attribute is the ability to develop and teach players within a system... the system requires multiple seasons to truly get comfortable with... and your roster is a constant revolving door... how exactly do you plan to succeed?
