CMY is a good coach who is really struggling with his roster. He, for a number of reasons, has not been able to keep his roster together year over year and it's made his job very difficult IMO. He rarely has the depth he needs at key positions (even if he had depth I'm not convinced he'd use it) and the players he does have simply cannot keep up with their ACC counterparts from an athletic standpoint. That was on full display in the 2nd half of the FSU game today (and let's be honest, FSU possesses more athleticism than most ACC teams not named UNC. However, its certainly a them with CMY teams here at VT). I like CMY and I hope he can figure out the roster issue(s) and I hope he can learn to adjust his incredibly rigid system to allow an easier path towards playing time for guys who aren't in the top 6/7 man rotation. It's tough. On one hand, being a middling ACC team seems like a logical and expected spot for Virginia Tech basketball. However, with the ACC being as mediocre as it is I do think the bar should be much higher... Right now, the outlook for next year does not look very good. Even if everyone comes back and CMY fills some gaps with the portal, history tells us those newcomers will not settle into his system with great ease (there are exceptions to this, of course) and will therefore make for a long season, and there we will be again... with an even bigger roster rebuild the following year. I'm not being "prophetic" here, but the trajectory for the CMY era seems to certainly be heading in an unfavorable way. I hope to be wrong in this assessment.
