My guess is that Mike Jones is a charismatic guy and maybe that plays a role, but I start of by trying to evaluate things as if VT is punching at it's weight. Sure I'd like to see us be exceptional, but it really angers me when I see obvious messes and fixable shortcomings that don't get addressed or cleaned up. I also take this view when comparing the resource gap between the ACC versus the Big 10 and SEC. I don’t want to sound too much like a complete VT homer, but shouldn’t VT be able to dominate GW and ODU in personnel? Am I wrong in thinking that the gap between VT versus GW and ODU is as wide or wider as the gap between the SEC and the ACC? In which case VT has no business losing effective players to those schools. Instead it looks like those schools are more attractive than VT. Even if Blacksburg isn’t an easy place to recruit to, neither is Manhattan KS, Iowa State or Creighton or other places that have solid rosters. Shouldn’t we be doing better? Perhaps someone can give me a solid take on this. Because to me this looks like another fixable mistake that isn’t being fixed. Is this view being unrealistic and cranky? This is basically the same argument I make asking why is JMU better than us in football? It annoys me to see this. When I see schools outperforming us that have lower ceilings than us I attribute this to mismanagement. Is this not fair? I think that Mike Young is an excellent coach, hopefully VT can find a way to retain effective players that leave for GW or ODU. This seems like a simple fix.... so let's fix it!
