Paths to the postseason for VT hoops

Basketball officially entered do or die mode after losing to GT, meaning any loss before the ACCT semifinals officially ends any chance of an at large bid. The NIT remains a possibility, but close out with 3 losses and a round 1 exit in Greensboro and that likely goes away. We’re sitting at the cutoff for seeded NIT teams and conference champs will shave off at large spots. From an ACCT perspective, we have to go unbeaten and get some help to avoid playing on day 1. If we do go unbeaten that would likely place us directly on the bubble. We probably won’t fare well there with our computer metrics and having 4 bad losses (remarkable that they’re all in conference). Avoiding day 1 means an extra day of rest, but it also likely means we end up playing Boston College which at this point is as close to a guaranteed L as we have. Ironically it’s not the top ACC teams that scare me as we can beat anyone, it’s the bottom teams that we really struggle with. At the end of the day, we can still get in by winning the next 6 in a row. If we lose a regular season game is repeat as champs or bust ** Edited by soflahokie at 2/20/2023, 10:34:26 AM

Our chances ended with the second loss to BC. We need to win the ACCT now.**

No they ended with GT if anything

Winning out would give us 4 Q1 wins. Miami is not Q1 and if we beat them...
Hokie Trainer 02/21/23 03:47 PM ET
it's a good time of the year to go on a winning streak**

Tend to agree. Possible that wins home against UM and @ Duke put us...
CampLawHokie 02/20/23 11:38 AM ET
Tough asks. Miami is playing lights out and Duke @Cameron Indoor is Duke**

Louisville away is no gimme. Just beat Clemson at home **

Yeah, a real far-fetched scenario at this point. Hope is a dangerous drug**

Hope is fine; expectation is the real danger.**

There’s no place for it inside these walls.**
Hokie535 02/20/23 04:35 PM ET
Yep; if we get somehow get to 10-10
hokiepro 02/20/23 01:27 PM ET
Miami is the key game, if we win tomorrow I like our chances
soflahokie 02/20/23 03:14 PM ET
This is possible if we don’t play acc cellar dwellers. Those are auto losses**
3TechFanz 02/20/23 02:52 PM ET
We have by far the most polarizing win/loss metrics
soflahokie 02/20/23 12:51 PM ET

Seems to me playing BC is actually pretty unlikely if we avoid day 1
Pylons 02/20/23 10:59 AM ET
If we get to 10-10 and Cuse is 10-10 we’d have the tiebreaker I THINK
hokiepro 02/20/23 01:30 PM ET
Only way to avoid day 1 is to win out and hope UNC loses 2 or Cuse gets to
hokiepro 02/20/23 01:28 PM ET
Hope BC ends up with less than 10 W's too; likely, but not given
Pylons 02/20/23 01:49 PM ET
Yeah. I guess it’s possible but very unlikely
hokiepro 02/20/23 01:53 PM ET
Well, if we're considering VT winning out...**
