I was teaching in the middle school. First time these boys have seen a college basketball game live. Our tickets were first row on end of court near tunnel. They were amazed walking into Cassel. They were on their feet the whole game cheering on the Hokies. When it was finally over, they all asked when could they come back. I bought them all t-shirts (on my teaching salary, it was tough). On Monday, each boy was wearing their VT bling. Hokie fans for a long time. Long story to it. I became head Varsity Basketball coach 2-3 years later. 5 of the 6 ended up playing for me from Soph year on. 3 of them were 3 year starters. If you have kids, come to the games whenever possible. Plus, have them bring a friend.
