I get what you are saying and would certainly rather win than lose, but

indicating there is a "bad loss" does not equate to saying losing is good. In terms of the primary goal for VT basketball to make the NCAA tournament, there are wins and good wins and there are losses and bad losses. Losing at home to a sub-par team is a bad loss. Losing at home to Stanford is bad, but less bad than losing at home to someone like Providence. Point being, losses can be categorized based on how much they will or won't hurt you come selection time. Slotting a loss in one tier or another doesn't make me happy about it, but maybe less upset about it. I'm not advocating for the team to adopt some culture of accepting winning, but as a fan, I am allowed to have realistic expectations around men's basketball and recognize that VT is going to lose games throughout the season. I know for many fans, losing any game creates this sky-is-falling reaction that causes them to anchor on the messages boards and try to crap on any shred of positivity, but I'm not going to fan that way. If that's how you want to do it, have at it. TSL will appreciate the traffic, because misery loves company.

I just want to explain and be very clear about this

Stanford is not a bad loss but would rather have the quality win - or lose

Does your post imply there is such a thing as a good loss?

We were ALWAYS going to lose one that we should have won.
SC_Hokie 01/08/26 06:17 PM ET
So this won't happen again this season?
Jethro Tull 01/08/26 06:31 PM ET
With a FULL, healthy roster, it shouldn’t. Getting TJ back is critical.**

A bunch of hints here that won't be happening for a long time, if at all**
