yep a serious medical situation with one of his parents

But having a really really good reason to leave does not mean that he didn't quit the team. He voluntarily stopped participating in team activities then gave up his spot on the roster. If that's not quitting the team I don't know what is. People automatically assume quitting a team is dishonorable, but it really depends on the situation the player is dealing with.
