Was it the ball size or the ability to jump that struck the nerve? I worked closely with both Geno A in Connecticut and Pat S in Tennessee back in the 90s. I had been associated with both schools through boys AAU. Both programs used boys to practice against regularly. They did not use the Mens University teams because obviously, that would be crazy. They both used campus club players and intramural players to help add “speed of play “ to the practice. The boys were selected by assistant coaches for their ability to play , but more importantly, they were selected for their ability to control their aggression. These were boys who played HS ball and participated on the schools intramural or club teams. It was very controlled and used the small (7th grade) ball. If the boys were too aggressive, they didn’t participate again. Undoubtedly, the Camden NJ HS Boys teams would crush any women’s collage team if they were allowed to play as men/boys play. The physicality, etc. using boys to practice against women’s team probably happens at TECH ALSO. My experience comes from this after coaching boys AAU for years and my work at Tennessee and UConn.
