We were coached to never throw OVER the D without at least a low (bounce)
Ball fake. We throw way too many soft lobs. Schutt should NEVER go outside the FT lane extended…he should ONLY receive passes in the middle of the of the court…as should just about everyone. The goal should ALWAYS be to get the ball inbounds to the middle immediately. Of course a good press takes that away initially BUT, IF you must throw it toward the sideline/corner to get it in…EITHER the inbounder OR player at midcourt should be immediately cutting to around the FT line or key BEHIND the double team, preferably before it closes up. The proper play is a quick bounce pass through/behind the trap to that middle key area to PREFERABLY a ball handler. THIS IS WHERE NEO SHOULD BE IMO.
Start Neo at mid court circle and his instruction is to run behind the corner trap of (usually Hammond or Schutt) if it happens immediately…to that middle key area in the backcourt. It’s that player’s job to read the trap and position themselves in the best passing lane to receive.
But I’m just an old retired athlete/coach
