Tone of officiating is set early. If one or two officials are "letting them play" and the third is trying to call it closely..guess who the coaches yell at!! If I am in the trail and the lead and C officials are allowing contact..the next possession, I am in the lead and suddenly I call contact. The coaches start yelling..call it the same on both ends of the floor. And they have a point! As I watched last night, I thought the officials were consistent in their calls. Like many others, I would have liked to see less contact allowed. But, this is where the players can make adjustments. I have told players and coaches during games that the officials do not adjust their calls to suit the players and coach. And Roger Ayers is one of the best officials in the game. Watch and you will see him every night. He is one of 3 on the court..and like I said..the tone was set in the first couple of minutes. Neither team had an offense and the officials started allowing things.
