Part of it is simply the state of college Athletics. And basketball rosters are not as big as football rosters. When football players opt out, they still have enough players to go to a bowl game. We have one starter out with an injury. Another starter who is back from an injury but still not playing full minutes. A backup who's still out with an injury. And it sounds like perhaps at least a couple of players who would rather focus on their basketball careers after college at this point. Considering All the injuries during the season, it's difficult to blame them too much. Plus, the NIT is about as relevant as most bowl games these days. Opting out of the NIT has become a fairly popular option. In the past you would have never heard of that happening. It's a changing of the times.
