The NBA has a similar developmental system to MLB...

where there are many many players who played minimal (or in MLB's case no) college ball. Yes, some players are drafted roster or even starter ready (Cooper Flagg), but many / most go through their franchise's development system in some way. If a team sees enough potential and has a specific need for that type of player, they will draft and place him accordingly within their structure, with their coaches, and develop him within that as they see fit. They don't want him spending excess time outside their framework with potential for injury, skill regression, etc. And the player wants to get there ASAP to maximize potential earnings. Not that another year in college would necessarily be detrimental, but if the league thinks you're (someday) worthy and wants you now, you go. Immediately.

He should not be on the floor in end of game situations.

I felt like AI could help answer why Neo would be drafted
LAHokieAlum 01/22/26 01:12 PM ET
But is he really 6'-9" or closer to 6'-7"?**

Stranger things have happened. We all made fun of Ryan Dunn and the UVA fans
HokieBrazil 01/22/26 12:19 PM ET
I was one of those who predicted no way Dunn would go in the first round
Zanderhokie 01/22/26 12:37 PM ET
I would say the Dunn/Neo comparison is flawed
wahoo2023 01/22/26 02:56 PM ET
Many of the DSU posters called Dunn a lottery pick,

Yup - Corey Moore would have been a top 5 pick in the NFL.

NBA teams draft based on potential and projections, not college stats
