Virginia Tech got a major boost on the wing on Tuesday afternoon when University of Texas-San Antonio 6’2 guard Jordan Ivy-Curry committed to the Hokies. Ivy-Curry could be seen as an ideal replacement for guard Hunter Cattoor, who exhausted his eligibility in Blacksburg. Jordan has one year of eligibility remaining. Jordan will come to Hokies for his third stop, spending time at UTSA and Pacific before eventually ending up in Blacksburg. He fits the prototype of what Mike Young has looked for on the wing, an athlete who can add some playmaking but is excellent at shooting from the perimeter and isn't afraid to get physical and mix it up for rebounds. Ivy-Curry is a career 35.8% three-point shooter and looks like a focal point of Mike Young's offense. This past season at UTSA was Jordan's best, averaging 17.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3 assists per game while shooting 38.7% from three. Ivy-Curry attempted about 14 shots per game so the Roadrunners were leaning heavily on his shotmaking ability, something the Hokies are also likely to do. But it was his assists that stood out, showing he can play as the main playmaker or off the ball to give Virginia Tech some versatility. Jordan missed some time this last season but was instrumental in his teams success and showed up in the biggest moments against the best competition. He had 38 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists in a close overtime loss to #23 Florida Atlantic and shot 50% from both the field and three in that game. He had another game at the end of the season against SMU with 33 points while shooting over 50% from the floor on 22 attempts and 54.5% from three on 9 attempts. This commitment gives Virginia Tech 7 scholarship players next season with Ivy-Curry joining Mylyjael Poteat, Jaydon Young, Brandon Rechsteiner, Patrick Wessler, Ryan Jones, and Tyler Johnson. That leaves the Hokies with 6 scholarships available for the 24-25 season. Jordan concluded his recruitment quickly but had reportedly been contacted by Kentucky, Xavier, and Auburn among others before deciding his future was in Blacksburg.
