AJ Camp transferring to Virginia Tech
AJ is a southpaw with a low 90's FB and wipeout slider. Has great stuff that induces a lot of whiffs and plenty of strikeouts (28% K rate). Last season he had some really quality outings against Clemson, UVA, and UNC where he didn't allow a run and racked up a few strikeouts in short stints. He has 8th inning stuff to set the table for Powell as the closer. He's a Carolina native that transfers in from Charlotte. He was at Wake Forest previously before that. The lefties were a target in the portal after losing Swift and Clement. The bullpen is much stronger now than it was a few weeks ago. Willey and Reynolds should have plenty of talent to work with to make improvements on last year's inflated team ERA that put them dead last in the conference.

In the last two years against Top 75 offenses (per Massey Ratings), he has pitched to a 3.00 era, 1.25 whip and 2.00 so-bb ratio across 24.0 innings which is the best performance against this group of offenses amongst our incoming transfer pitchers (even better than Daniel Powell who has a 4.03 era, 1.34 whip, 16.9 so-bb in 29.0 innings against the same grouping of offenses looking at the last two years).
To your point, both he and Powell should be anchors in our bullpen to help close out games.
One thing is clear in this portal cycle, Willey is looking to put his stamp on the pitching staff personnel. Last year, I was a little surprised he only brought in 3 pitchers (Weber, Roe, Smith) so the 2026 staff was predominantly personnel that Fectau had brought in. With the planned turnover, it looks like we could have double-digit pitchers next year that were recruited by Willey.
