On the game for us. Locurto was a liability in RF who wouldn’t have been playing if French didn’t get ejected and then we likely wouldn’t have played Lewis if Davis hadn’t been ejected. Those two went a combined 0-5 at the plate with 4 strikeouts and 2 errors in the field. I’m also wondering if Gibson was hurt or injured. I thought he would have at least been a late-inning defensive replacement for Lewis but Slade came in, so got me wondering about his status for the game. In any case, it’s pretty clear that Lewis just isn’t an option in ACC games either offensively or defensively. And unfortunately the lineup adjustment of Grady in the #2 slot didn’t pay off and of course his error was extremely costly and paired with our pitching staff’s inability to consistently throw strikes, that is not a recipe for success. It now sets us up to where we’ll likely need to win 2 of 3 series against Duke, Pitt and UVA to have a good shot at an NCAA tournament bid and Duke has been playing good baseball of late and just swept Pitt this weekend. They’ll be a tall challenge for us as all three of their starting pitchers are lefties which we typically don’t do well against and they also have 6 lefty relievers that have made multiple appearances in the last 4 ACC series they’ve played in.
