Slept on it…still don’t get our 9th inning pitching and defense
Started Clement vs lefty…made total sense.
Here’s where it goes sideways
1)Once he hung the curve, why is he still pitching vs RH??
2) Grim is really your best RHP closer option? Has he been a closer all year?
3) alignment with 1&3 and 1 out. Where that ball was hit…we should have had either the extra fielder in a short OF position near where that ball landed (pull side for RH) or keep 3 OF with them playing shallow to try to cut down run at home. Locurto was pretty deep in LC…effectively we had 7 fielders for the last play because if they hit it where he was aligned it’s a SF anyway
Szefc has taken us to Supers and back to regionals in a difficult $$ environment. He’s done more with less building roster to be competitive at least and has found under the radar talent and developed hitters. I guess the lack of $$ & funding scholarships has shown up in lack of pitching depth the most. So overall competitiveness he’s done a good job.
However, I really don’t understand Szefc’s in game coaching decisions. Use of shift has backfired as often as it’s worked with grounders that would be outs turning into hits. Strange pitching matchup decisions. Horrible challenges

If you’re throwing that in 2 strike count it must be down

A slow curve that’s inside but near the belt is by definition a hanging

I agree. Slow curve to a LH like that with the way the ball was flying out
