I always view Tech as an Okst type - baseball fits techs profile as a “gritty” school. Truthfully, baseball should be the best program tech has based on Geography, money in program etc. Issue is - tech hasn’t hit. I thought the SR team was the start - it just takes one good team to establish recruits. It hasn’t unfortunately for y’all. WRT Virginia, there isn’t even a comp. Danny neckel posted a stat that since Oak took over, uva is the winningest program in the nation. 6 CWS in a 15 year span. The program consistently has first to second round picks, guys in the MLB and their recruiting stronghold in New York/New Jersey as well as the state is not going anywhere. Virginia is also elite in talent identification. Especially “fringe” guys that become elite - this season it’s Jacob Ference (D3) and Bobby Whalen (from Indiana but was just “good”). Wake is the new age success with technology and NC State has a bit of a long history with Avent. Tech just needs to find some consistency bc it is an attractive brand in the south where talent is everywhere. Not a school where academic barriers hurt in recruiting. Just a few consistent regional hosts, etc and it becomes a recurring cycle. Both Tech and Virginia struggle with pitching. That’s something uva has been hurt with in the past due to Rep (previous pitching coach was no no bueno) but this year has been injury. But tech HAS better horses than uva in my opinion. Better power stuff and the SEC gets those guys in bunches. If uva got those types of arms and turns them into PITCHERS (techs issue) and vice versa for Tech (creating pitchers) then both would be wildly successful. That is what wake is doing.
