Her leadership, example, attitude. Even when she's struggling, she celebrates her teammates. Smiles. Congratulates them with enthusiasm. That's not easy when you are a starter and are frustrated with your own game. The team seems to have a high level of camaraderie, from 1 through 13. I'll bet a lot of that has to do with her attitude and example.

Generally agree with your points. I hope/expect this will just be a temporary pause. But getting visa appointments takes time and is fraught with random ways things can go wrong. So the longer this pause lasts, the bigger impact on students and schools. It's true that most international undergraduate students pay out-of-state tuition. But in science and engineering, a large percentage of international graduate students are supported, i.e., on research or teaching assistantships. So they don't pay tuition. In general, these are extremely high quality students. If the path to schools like VT for international grad students is significantly more difficult, then our teaching and research missions will be significantly harmed. Of course, if federal funding for science and engineering also goes away, our research mission is basically knee-capped as well.
