Posting History (75)

Just getting back to it after work. So we are down to 3? Who's next?

We have Seidel tonight. Tough one.... Eddie and Gaj? What time do they go next? And what is their path to AA looking like?

It’s every match though.

As a strategy I can understand it but when the difference in talent level is so close, razor thin, you have to just can’t depend on it. 90% of the time isn’t good enough at NCAA.

Cant live on OT ride outs in the big tourney.

It was a questionable strategy all year but lack of aggression caught him in the biggest moment. I hope he still has the fire and comes through the disappointment to get a 3rd.

My father's life was saved by a Kidney donation.

I've seen both sides of the process, recipient and donor. Robie is very literally a hero. Wishing them both a speedy recovery, and I hope he inspires more people to consider gifting life to another. I'm at a loss for words at the amount of respect I have for him.

We can agree to disagree I guess.

I definitely didn’t come out of the woodworks so maybe I’m not who you are referring to but I hate to see lack of (offensive) effort rewarded and I feel like that’s how the rulings have been trending over last few years. I still think that was a take down and should have stood. Either way it doesn’t matter as the end result is the same. We all feel for Caleb tonight and I hope he uses it to fuel his 2x next year. Go Hokies!

CH will still be the first repeat champion at VT.

But man was he robbed. I hate to see lack of effort rewarded. Refs blew that one…

Obviously transfers will throw a big wrench into things

But what does our lineup look like next season as of now? We lose some good guys. We get some good ones back. Where are the holes that we will look to fill in the portal? Who’s moving around weight classes? I truly hadn’t thought much about it until today as I was just enjoying the season at hand.

I love TJ and the potential there but can't argue with this decision really

For whatever reason(s), he didn't have a deserving resume this year. For whatever the reason(s) he didn't have a deserving resume this year. I hate it for the team points/standing but honestly the thought of a motivated, determined (maybe even pissed off?) TJ is scary to think about next season.

Absolutely still could have happened.

It was trending that way before the decision. I hate not taking bottom there. I believe it cost him the title.

Does Wolak make NCAAs with a third place finish?

I didn’t see how many spots ACC got. If not, what are the odds of an at large?

Exactly. NYC is a wonderful place to live.

Different strokes and all that. Blanket statements are usually ignorant. I love SW VA but I love the city too for very different reasons.

Does anyone have a link to TJs 7th place match?

Or which Matt/time he wrestled earlier? Excited for all of his potential. He has room to grow but already capable of beating anyone in the field. I’m not sure how that weight class looks next year but he has to be a (the) favorite, yes?

Yep. I thought we might get them again this year.

Calculated aggression fairs better at nationals. When you don’t attack and stay on the defense, that’s when you go down, and it seems to bite NC State every year. It works for them in duals and ACCs. I don’t know if that is because of how the conference is called related to stalling? Idk it’s a strange phenomenon. I’m ready for VT to take a conference tourney again though!

That makes sense. Again, I disagree, but I totally understand your thought

Two different approaches, and in the end who knows if either is better. Proud of Mekhi and, sad to see the champ leaving us.

Again, my friend, we will have to agree to disagree.

Here’s how I see it, if you truly believe that Mekhi, Lewis is going to get out from bottom then you go down. If he does that within one minute, then you are tied in the same position as we just saw. If he does it within 10 seconds, which I think he’s absolutely capable of, you’ve effectively put all the pressure on the opponent to attack. We know Mekhi is at his best when defending attacks. I want to be aggressive and force the other guy into desperate situations. Different tactics for different wrestlers. That has always been my philosophy. I was not always the best, but by God nobody was gonna keep me from getting up from bottom.

To which part?

Do you feel that the down position is a team strength? Or are you saying you don’t think we need to consistently choose down? I have always viewed bottom as a free throw. It’s all heart and effort. Give me that point and then let’s wrestle.

Exactly! Coaches should have told him to go down.

I understand it from Mekhi since he doesn’t want to lose that ridding time point, BUT if you get out in 10 secs you are up 1. I want our guys to believe they will get out from bottom and right now I don’t feel that way from many of them. (TJ is the exceptions that dude drips in confidence).

Did not expect it but have always thought Catka was capable.

That's why I've been so frustrated by him. He's so strong and athletic, most of his losses seem to be a lack of effort. If he brings the energy he is a top 8 guy. ** Edited by vthokiebrotha at 3/22/2024, 4:24:08 PM

Thanks for this!

I was sitting at my computer, flipped back to watch the match and was very confused! Awesome!
